On the 16th and 17th of June 2006 the annual Open Days of the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) were held at Leeuwarden Air Base. This year would be a unique show as the United States Navy Demonstration Team "the Blue Angels" were present on their only European Show since years!

The last time Leeuwarden hosted the Open Days was in 2001. Due to reconstruction of the main runway, last year the show was held at Gilze-Rijen instead of Leeuwarden. Now the construction works are finished, Leeuwarden is ready for the next decennium when it will recieve the first F-35 JSFs after 2012.

For more than one week Leeuwarden was not the normal operational base in the north of The Netherlands, but it was a heaven for spotters. This already started with the arrival of the Blue Angels at monday the 12th. After more than 13 years they were back in Europe!

The rest of the week the other participants arrived, especially at the thursday in very bad weather. Also on the friday, the first show day, there was a low cloudbase. Most pictures in this report will be from the Saturday when the weather was perfect. For a full report on the RNLAF 2006 Open Days.

With no less then 8 Display Teams including the Finnish Air Force Midnight Hawks, the Portuguese Air Force's ASAS de Portugal and Patrouille Suisse this year's show will be one hard to forget when we are looking forward to the 2007 Air Show!

The Dutch Air shows are an annual famous aviation event and one of the world’s most prestigious and exciting Air show. This DVD of Aviationvideo brings you the action of Saturday the 17th of June 2006.
